Woodkid – Iron
It seems there’s a trend of epic, yet somewhat futile video clips circulating in recent times. Think Yeasayer’s Ambling Alp and Massive Attack’s latest clip for Atlas Air. They’re big, bold and very attractive. That’s about it.
That’s why I love these clips – they simply add to what your ears experience. They don’t detract or warp your perception of the song – like a lot of literal, narrative-driven clips can. Although a little bizarre at times, they seem to sit in pure unison with the audio. There’s no resolution, there’s no blatant story or message behind the imagery – it’s entirely a visual response to the music.
Woodkids ‘Iron’ is no exception. It’s slow motion everything – epic battle scenes, silly smoke bombs and majestic animals. All wrapped up as a disjointed image fest that purges your eyes with your eardrums. I normally don’t dig ‘epic’ things.. but this was undeniably impressive.
